Matter Smart Home Devices
Matter is a new smart home standard designed to provide connectivity across all participating smart home companies. Matter has over 280 member companies including big brands like Amazon, Apple, Google and Samsung. Matter can communicate over IPV6 using Ethernet or WiFi, or it can communicate using the Thread wireless protocol.
As of October 2022 the Matter V1.0 standard has been ratified and a certification process is in place so we expect to start seeing devices over the next months and years to fill out this category.
The SmartThings hub and Hubitat C8 are two of the first smart hubs to support matter. Samsung has announced that SmartThings V2 and V3 hubs including the Aeotec SmartThings Hub will be upgraded to support Matter through a firmware update. As of December 2023 Hubitat C8 is now a Matter over IP controller.
Several of the Leviton WiFi Gen2 devices now offer Matter support by way of a firmware udpate using the Leviton app. These would also be matter over IP.
