LeakSmart Stopped Working
Do you own a LeakSmart automatic water shut off system? If so you likely noticed the LeakSmart web site is no longer available and LeakSmart app and hub are no longer working.
LeakSmart Out of Business and App Not Working
It appears that the manufacturer or parent company Waxman has discontinued the brand and the cloud services have been shut down. That means the hub and WiFi sensors no longer function. Waxman's web site says that after 80 years they've sold their plumbing and floor care businesses. No mention was made about LeakSmart at time of writing.
What do I do now with my LeakSmart System Now?
The good news is that Zigbee is the underlying technology behind the LeakSmart shut-off valve and most of their sensors. Zigbee devices communicate locally without the cloud or WiFi, and are supported by several smart hubs. The SmartThings Hub is one of the most smart hub options and as it turns out, there is an "edge driver" available for SmartThings to support LeaksSmart Zigbee valves and sensors. SmartThings to the rescue!
Now the Bad News
If you have LeakSmart sensors that have the WiFi symbol on them, unfortunately they will no longer work and you'll have to replace them with another WiFi sensor like Shelly - or you can purchase ZWave or Zigbee water sensors and pair them to the SmartThings Hub.
This is another case where "local control" is a huge advantage over products that require a cloud service to function. In this case at least the Zigbee enabled devices can be salvaged.
